Orientation Umah Pelangi

map bali 1

If by air, you will arrive at Ngurah Rai International Airport Denpasar, which is built at the thin land bridge, which connects the main Bali triangle with the small southern peninsula Bukit (Bukit = “hill”). Actually, the airport is not in Denpasar itself, which is Bali’s capital a bit further to the North. Bigger ships are sailing to Benoa harbour at the east coast, east of the air port and long distance busses stop at Ubung Bus Terminal in north Denpasar.

The main tourit center is at the south part of Bali, north of the airport. Tourism developed originally mainly from Kuta, at the west coast, from where it spread to the North into Legian, Seminyak, Kerobokan (Batubelig / Umalas) up to Canggu. The former villages from Kuta up to Canggu grew together into a single joint strip along the beach, where you will not notice that you are leaving / entering one or the other. In this “larger Kuta” area, you will find every thing from fancy dining, shopping, bars and all needs for daily life.

On the south east coast is Sanur and Nusa Dua. Surfing is good at Bukit beaches. In the North of Bali, Lovina is a much more quite tourist destination, famous for dolphin watching (no guarantee, that you really see some), hot springs and water falls. In the east you will find some cultural places (see below) and in the far East Amed, a snorkeling destination. In central Bali is Ubud, famous for its art, such as paintings and wood carvings.

For more detailed information about sight seeing and temples, refer to the chapter below, as well as we are happy to assist you in finding “your” places.
